HIV/AIDS Grant Program
In 2001, OFID took steps to consolidate and strengthen its involvement in the global effort against HIV/AIDS by creating a special program. As of December 31, 2013, nearly US$85 million was approved under the program.
Today, OFID is working with a broad coalition of strategic partners to fight the pandemic in over 90 countries. Our interventions cover many areas, including awareness, prevention, testing and counselling, as well as care, treatment and support.
OFID's partners include the ILO, the IFRC, UNAIDS, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNODC and WHO, among others. Joint initiatives are currently underway in countries across Africa, Asia, the Pacific, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Arab World. OFID's primary areas of intervention cover prevention and awareness activities, care and support to people living with HIV/AIDS and reduction of vulnerability.
With an estimated 34 million people currently living with HIV/AIDS and the disease continuing to escalate in cer tain countries and regions, there can be no doubt that OFID’s contribution will continue to grow ever more relevant and necessary.
In 2013, action to contain the spread and impact of HIV/AIDS comprised the provision of US$3.2m towards six projects, including a joint program with ILO targeting workplace prevention, treatment and care.
