Job Title: Director, Information Department
Organizational Unit: Information Department
Job Profile:
The Director, Information Department, will be responsible for overseeing OFID’s information dissemination programs to governments and all other development partners, special interest groups, the media and the general public. The incumbent of this position will serve as the focal point for delivering OFID’s information outputs in various ways, including periodic public information campaigns. He/She would also be expected to develop information management strategies that will raise substantially OFID’s profile, both in the immediate and longer terms.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific tasks will include:
- Management of the information department and overall coordination of OFID’s information and press work, including planning, developing and ensuring effective execution of OFID’s public information campaign
- Development of content driven, message consistent information toolkits that will project OFID’s activities and achievements to different stakeholders
- Identification of events and activities undertaken by OFID that are worthy of publicity and providing advice on the most appropriate way of carrying out such publicity
- Handling a wide range of media information responsibilities such as maintaining relations with the international media, organising press conferences and issuing press releases, all of which would be aimed at raising OFID’s visibility as well as ensuring that the most favourable image of the OFID and its member states is projected
- Development of corporate identity, key messages, texts for speeches, articles, press products, and supervision of all generic information products and systems including OFID’s website
- Participation in all activities relating to information, speeches, reports, written documents, films, videos and photographs of OFID’s programs and activities
- Supervision of the maintenance of mailing list and management of the distribution of standard information materials
- Ensures that the staff in information department receives the supervision and guidance necessary to broaden skills and improve performance; evaluates the performance of those staff directly reporting to him/her and generally maintain high degree of personal motivation
- Performs other duties as required by the Director General
- Maintaining electronic mailing list and distributing press releases by email.
- Performing other standard secretarial functions such as filing, accurate record keeping, photocopying, handling inquiries, making meeting arrangements, all in a consistent manner with official guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
- An advanced degree from a reputable university in the country of education, in communications, journalism, public information management or any other relevant discipline
- Minimum of fifteen years relevant professional experience in management of information programs and / or in the press, media and public relations domain; five of which must have been in a senior management position
- Experience of working in an international environment will be a particular asset
Skills and Competences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to set out coherent presentations during meetings
- Good working knowledge of either Arabic, French or Spanish will be an added advantage
- Knowledgeable and possessed of creative interpersonal, and intellectual leadership skills needed in planning, coordination and supervision
- A good understanding of the role of information and communications in development
- Innovativeness and the ability to bring new ideas and approaches
- Good working knowledge of computer applications and electronic communication
- Ability to work with people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds
