Vocational training center in Guinea receives OFID support

67/2006 July 13, 2006, Vienna, Austria
Press inquiries:

The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has approved a grant of US$40,000 to help finance a project designed by the Austrian Guinea Society (AGS) to equip a vocational training facility (an “Austria House”) in Conakry, Guinea.

Based in Vienna, Austria, the AGS is an NGO that aims at building a platform for the cooperation and exchange of information and experience for the implementation of joint activities with Guinean ministries and national institutions. It also provides technical expertise in the areas of vocational training in order to enable talented youth to gain the skills needed to obtain good jobs and in turn, help reduce poverty.

Construction of the Austria House, which also received OFID support from an earlier grant, was successfully completed at the end of 2005. AGS is now preparing to purchase tools and equipment for the vocational training workshops in order to have the facility in operation by September 2006.
