OFID Director-General meets with Angolan Minister of Finance

31/2007 November 20, 2007 Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Press inquiries:

The Director-General of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), Mr. Suleiman J. Al-Herbish, has met with Angolan Minister of Finance, HE Dr. Jose Pedro de Morais, to discuss the African country’s possible accession to the Vienna-based development finance institution.

Angola became eligible for membership of OFID when it joined sister institution OPEC (the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) on January 1 this year. In his meeting with Mr. Al-Herbish, Dr. de Morais expressed the willingness of his government to, in principle, consider joining OFID.

Dr. de Morais and Mr. Al-Herbish met on the sidelines of the events surrounding the Third Summit of Sovereigns and Heads of State and Government of OPEC Member Countries, which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, November 17-18. It was the first Summit to be attended by Angola.

Also participating in the meeting were the Angolan Minister of Petroleum, HE Desiderio da Graça Verissimio e Costa and the Angolan Ambassador to Vienna, Dr. Fidelino Loy de Jesus Figueiredo.
