Purpose
To help improve population's access to social services and end isolation in the Bubanza and Cibitoke provinces.
Activities
  • construct a 14.5 km-long paved stretch of road through the Bubanza and Cibitole Provinces in the northwest;
  • construction of two bridges;
  • installation of drainage facilities;
  • consultancy services.

  • consultancy services.

Transitional Post-conflict Reconstruction (US$10 million)
Purpose
To help improve livelihoods of rural populations
Activities
  • rehabilitation and development of agricultural land;
  • rehabilitation of 325 km of rural roads;
  • construction and rehabilitation of water distributions sytems;
  • distribution of agricultural packs that include tools and seeds; and
  • capacity building and awareness-raising actitivies.

Kirundo-Gasenyi Road (US$12 million)
Purpose
To facilitate external trade, particularly with Rwanda, and ease isolation
Activities
  • construction of a 37 km all-weather road;
  • upgrading of 80 km of feeder roads;
  • improvement of socio-economic infrastructure such as schools, health centers and marketplaces;
  • construction of a 2.8 km bypass road around the city of Kirundo;
  • construction of a common border crossing between Burundi and Rwanda;
  • land expropriation compensation;
  • consultancy services; and
  • institutional support.
