Emergency Food Security and Rural Development Program (US$8.36 million)
Purpose:
To improve food security among poor farmers and herders three administrative regions of Maradi, Tahoua and Tillaberi who are heavily affected by recurrent food and livestock crises.
Activities:
  • distribution of seeds;
  • development of small-scale irrigation schemes;
  • strengthening of irrigated rice-production systems along the Niger River Valley; and,
  • construction of 170 km of feeder roads and 72 modern water points.

Bella II Gaya Border with Benin Road Rehabilitation (US$10 million)
Purpose:
To foster socio-economic development of the Dosso and Gaya provinces in the southwest and promote regional integration between Niger, Benin and Nigeria.
Activities:
  • rehabilitation of a 73.4 km-long, 10 m-wide road with a paved surface;
  • installation of drainage facilities to prevent flooding;
  • installation of safety devices such as signs, lighting and guard rails;
  • carrying out of environmental protection measures such as planting trees and creation of water catchments;
  • promotion of road safety awareness; and
  • consultancy services.
Project cost:
US$45.43 million

Kandadji Dam (US$15 million)
Purpose:
To construct a dam located some 187 km upstream from the capital Niamey and approximately 61 km from the Malian border that will have the capability of storing 1.6 billion m3 of water for irrigation and drinking.
Activities:
  • construction of dam and related hydro-mechanical equipment;
  • construction of a spillway facility, powerhouse and bottom outlet;and
  • consultancy services.

US$317.1 million

Purpose:
To promote rural development in the Maradi Region
Activities:
  • agro-pastoral development, including improvement of irrigation schemes, provision of technical support to farmers and financing of micro-projects in the field of natural resource management;
  • construction and/or rehabilitation 250km of feeder roads;
  • construction of 400 water points;
  • construction of 120 school canteens;
  • rehabilitation of 130 health centers; and
  • launching of literacy programs;
  • project implementation unit (PIU).

Purpose:
To rehabilitate a key road to foster the development of the agriculture and mining sectors in the project area

  • rehabilitation of 94 km of earth road;
  • installation of drainage structures;
  • provision of road markings and signs;
  • construction of 4 new feeder roads totaling 4.74 km in length; and
  • consultancy services.
