Second Northern Greater Mekong Subregion Transport Network Improvement (US$12 million)
Purpose:
This project will improve a total of 143 km of roads that pass through Houaphanh Province, located in a mountainous area in the northeast. Houaphanh is one of the country's poorest provinces and is populated by approximately 325,000 people.
Activities:
  • rehabilitation, upgrading and surfacing of a total of 143 km of roads with a bituminous surface;
  • replacement of structurally inadequate and narrow bridges and culverts;
  • re-aligning sections where there are hazardous curves;
  • resettlement of communities affected by the civil works;
  • provision of weighing stations; and
  • consultancy services.
