Asunción Urban Redevelopment and Modernisation (US$19 million)
Purpose:
To support an urban redevelopment and modernization project in the capital Asunción. The majority of OFID’s loan will be directed to the establishment of a Bus Rapid Transit System between the city centers of San Lorenzo and Asunción.
Activities:
  • rehabilitation and upgrading of water supply and sanitation systems; roads; marketplaces; and electricity and telecommunication networks;
  • restoration of historical public buildings and construction of Government office buildings, including a citizen service center; and
  • construction of the city’s first high-capacity Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).

National Rural Roads Program (Phase II) (US$29 million)
Purpose:
To carry out rehabilitation and maintenance works on 8,000 Km of high-priority rural roads in the departments of Alto Paraná and Itaipú
Activities:
  • rehabilitation of approximately 2,100 km of rural roads;
  • replacement of some 2,300 m of worn wooden bridges with concrete ones;
  • implementation of routine maintenance plans for up to 4,800 km of previously-rehabilitated roads, including periodic corrective maintenance of around 3,000 km of roads;
  • surfacing of 500 urban stretches with gravel; and
  • institutional strengthening of the country's Rural Road Directorate and local governments.
